3am Thoughts

aearley94

At these moments, the world is still
You have nothing except your mind and heart to accompany you

Usually thoughts of either your past or future flood and sometimes you forget the present,

I know I do

At times I get too regretful about my past or too anxious for my future

See, the thing about life,

It consumes your mind with “What if’s” that bring about a new level of unneeded stress

You never know how your life would be if you fulfilled your urge for instant gratification that you initially turned down in the past.

The butterfly effect,

The wave of changes that would have taken place in your life, good and bad, would’ve altered something

You would’ve just won some here and there but it’d still lead to a lose down the road

Learn to follow your heart, and be content with the outcome

Don’t be regretful…

Dear Church People

Dear Church People

When you say you are praying is it for my destruction because I make you uncomfortable or are you truly praying as an agent of God

When you say God loves me is it only if I live the life that you think I should live or does He love me as the creature He made

When you say you understand, do you only understand that my sin is bigger than yours or do you truly understand who I am and what I feel

When you hug me is it out of love or pity

Dear church people when you look at me and my life, are you looking down or lifting up

Are you judging my sins by your standards or are you accepting that we ALL fall short

Dear church people when you wonder why I don’t come to church, do your think it’s because of the sin in my life or do you realize that it’s because of you, church people, who judge my life, condemn my choices, pray for my destruction, lie while smiling in my face, praise God while worshipping yourselves….

Dear church people, while you are blaming the destruction of morality of this land on me and my life do you remember the immoral choices you have made, the lies you have told, the behaviors that you have exhibited in your life that would be displeasing to a Holy God

Dear church people, I too pray….For You

So I’ve been trying to keep my random thoughts to myself but there are a couple of things that happened recently, one that is reaching a boiling point with me.  I will start with the not so serious one:

I was working an event where we were checking IDs for alcohol sales.  The event was an outdoor concert and the protocol is to have the patron remove their ID from their wallet and hand it to me.  I asked a young lady to do so and she asked if I could take it out because she had just had her nails done and didn’t want to mess them up.  I was not offended by nor concerned about her request so I removed the ID, checked it, and slid it back into her wallet.  After she left, a supervisor whispered, “Why is she out here if she just got her nails done?”  HUH!?! Did I miss something?!  Are you not allowed to attend events if you just had your nails done?  Is a manicure now considered a medical treatment that needs recovery time before going out in public?  Should this young lady have stayed home until her nails were at the proper drying level where she can function normally in society?  I have had manicures and cannot remember any follow-up instructions once I left except to be careful for at least an hour to make sure they were dry.  I think I felt okay to drive, shop, listen to music, and dance without feeling faint or dizzy.  Sometimes people just say stuff…there’s no rhyme or reason for it…they are just saying stuff.  So to any ladies out there who are going to get a manicure prior to attending an event where you may be asked to show your ID before purchasing alcohol, let me offer this one piece of advice…take your ID out of your wallet before you get your nails done or just stay at home!

My second rant is a bit more serious but still on the same basis of people just saying stuff.  Many of you have seen the picture of the young soldier and his bride praying before their Memorial Day wedding.  If not here it is:

proxy-15

This beautiful moment was captured by their photographer, Dwayne Schmidt, as the young man, who wanted to make sure they were starting their lives in God’s Will, wanted to pray before they walked down the aisle while still not seeing his bride before the ceremony.  The beauty and sanctity of this moment should be celebrated as we think of how many marriages would begin on a solid foundation if the bride and groom were more concerned about being in the will of God than the pomp of circumstance of the ceremony.  However, instead of praise this has become a center or controversy because some people just gotta say stuff.  There are those who are upset because this couple was getting married on Memorial Day.  They have been accused of being disrespectful to the fallen soldiers and their families by celebrating a new start in life.  Below are a few of the comments:

“You do realize that Memorial Day is to honor the fallen soldiers and not a wedding, right?

Given that, this is not the perfect image for Memorial Day.”

And for some, the offense was more personal:

“My brother was a Marine and dying from it now…Where was their parade, help, thank you when they came back from Vietnam? Nowhere. All he got when he got off the plane in the airport was spit on and called names. He’s hooked up to a machine; he’s never had a ‘thank you’ except from family. Wow, a wedding — it’s supposed to be for the ones that are gone…”

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!  Memorial Day is the day that is set aside to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom and no one should take that lightly, but shall I remind you that the sacredness of the day has long been shattered by the sales ads, cookouts, dances, alcohol consumption, beach going, road trips, etc. that are usually prevalent on this day.  Since when is it sacrilegious to have a wedding on, around, before, or during Memorial Day?!  Once again, people have to take something that is so pure, innocent, heart-felt, and genuine and turn it into the ugliness that this world thrives on.  This couple didn’t ask for this to become the latest and greatest internet sensation!  Nor did they expect their private moment to become a public outcry about whether or not their wedding date was appropriate.  They were simply doing what true Christians want and strive for and that is to live their lives in the will of the Lord. For those who find this objectionable, I am truly at a loss as to why.  We grieve with you and share your pain in the loss of your loved one, however Memorial Day is not only a day for mourning, but a day to celebrate life, love, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all who benefit from the sacrifice of those fallen soldiers.  May God bless this couple in their life together and may God bless and keep those families who are forever grieving for the loss of their family member who left them to never return.

Portrait of A Poet

Since it’s Throwback Thursday, I dusted off this little diddy that was written a few years ago…it’s also an ode to Allergy Season…you’ll see!

Portrait of a Poet

I could continue this ongoing fight, but what would I really gain
The way I see it, the true victory will only come when I lay down the weapons of battle

and start the peace talks all over again
This battle can easily be discontinued by letting the enemy know that I no longer believe in

or fear its power or lack thereof

How does one profess to being a writer when they are afraid to write?
Afraid of the venom that may leak out once pen meets paper
The fear of revealing one’s true thoughts, feelings, emotions, triumphs, failures, flaws, and character

can be very strong deterrents in achieving a career as a writer.

However, the flip side of this coin is that many have found great healing of some of these same ailments

just by simply voiding their souls onto a piece of paper and thereby

ridding themselves of these restless spirits to move forward to a more peaceful plane in their lives.

How is it possible to fear the one thing that I want most in life? Can I really be afraid of the exposure?

What will my writing truly reveal if I were to allow pen and paper to become the tools for which my soul uses for healing? Am I afraid of the revelations that the answers to these questions will bring?

This mirror is getting more and more difficult to look into.

It feels as though it’s spring and the weather is warm, the breeze is blowing just gentle enough

so that the curtains will dance a slow rhythmic waltz once the windows are opened.

The flowers are presenting their best colors and the world seems to be at peace with itself

and then I close my eyes and revel in nature’s symphony of new birth as the birds chirp in harmony.

I take a deep breath ready to inhale all the aromas of the earth and just when I begin

to feel the deep commune with God, Heaven and Nature

I SNEEZE!!

Random Rants Wednesday

I’ve decided to take a brief break from recognizing National Poetry Month to get a few things off my chest.  These are some random rants that are currently on my radar:

Michelle Obama dancing: So the First Lady of The United States of America shook her groove thang during the Easter Celebration at the White House this past weekend.  She had some fun on the Jimmy Fallon show with the return of the “Mom” dance, and she challenged Ellen to a little dance off.  Several Conservative outlets have taken this as an abomination of one of the most dignified positions in America.  One headline talked about the how the First Lady “disgraced” the title once again.  Another says: “First Lady dons stretch pants and shakes her rump.”  Really people!?!  Since when is it disgraceful, disgusting, and undignified to show how using dance can be a way to live healthy and feel better.  I didn’t see the First Lady twerking on a pole or wall, dropping it like it’s hot, or grinding on some sexy young backup dancer as can be seen on any social media outlet.  She was dancing a choreographed dance that incorporated simple moves that children and adults can do to get moving, feel good, and be healthy.  That’s the message!  So all of you stuck-up, pompous, high and mighty stuffed shirts who wouldn’t know a rhythm if it jumped down your throat need to find a new life and get over yourselves.  I think the lack of respect in the coverage of the First Lady is much more disrespectful than anything she has done to address childhood obesity.  Maybe if they caught a beat every now and then, they wouldn’t have time to sit on their plump rumps and criticize our First Lady’s moves! IJS

Another Cop Shooting: I’m sure you have seen or heard of the South Carolina officer who gunned down a 50-yr. old man during a traffic stop and decided to use the popular adage of: “I was in fear of my life!”  Well, why not?  It worked for those other guys so he figured that was all he needed as justification for shooting and killing an unarmed man running AWAY from him.  Then he proceeds to handcuff the man as he lies on the ground dying.  The precedence has been set, right?  So imagine his surprise when he gets hit with a murder charge and denied bond!  Rut ro…Hey it worked for those other guys!

Something a little more personal: Okay so I’ve been trying to change my diet and eat healthier to feel better and lose weight.  So, of course, I check the internet for the advice, recipes, nutrition, etc.  Well as expected there are any number of resources but what is boiling my blood is all of the contradictions.  Eat plenty of wheat and whole grains says one…stay away from wheat adds another.  Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables advises another especially bananas which are high in potassium and other nutritional benefits to help with depression, joint pain, and stamina….bananas will make you fat and bloated says another.  Eat plenty of fish like tuna and salmon says one article….tuna and salmon are high in mercury and should be avoided reads another article.  Fried foods in moderation is okay….fried foods are the devil!  I’m soooo confused…should I just suck air and drink water?  Of course not, because the air and water are polluted and I’ll die from cancer. What’s a girl to do?….DANCE!

Dance of a Child

Dance of a Child

The feet are light

The movements unpredictable

The joy undeniable in the dance of a child

Doesn’t matter the melody

The rhythm becomes the puppetmaster in the dance of a child

No heavy burdens to encumber the movement as the arms wave in the air in celebration of freedom

The freedom is the catalyst for the dance of a child

As we grow and life takes hold oh how we yearn for that carefree feeling

A feeling as elusive as a cool breeze on a balmy summer day

How wonderful it would be to throw off our garments of burdens and heaviness and be free

Even if only for a moment

How tolerable life would be

How sweet the moments of joy if we could just remember the dance of a child

The Confessional

Happy Good Friday! The following is my offering for this Resurrection Weekend!

The Confessional

Forgive me Father for I have sinned

Truer words never to be uttered as I slip into my little black box of honesty and peel back the curtain of my life

Forgive me Father for I have sinned

For the words of deception that so easily flow from my lips

Forgive me Father for I have sinned

For the many ways I have misused and abused the divine temple You gifted to me

Forgive me Father for I have sinned

For the hurt and anguish resulting from my selfishness and manipulations

Forgive me Father for I have sinned

For not acknowledging and appreciating the lives sacrificed for my convenience and liberty

Forgive me Father for I have sinned

For pridefully believing in my superiority while looking down on the sinful humanity of others

Forgive me Father for I have sinned

for vows and promises broken the very moment they were spoken

Forgive me Father for I have sinned

For not realizing my truth and identity, for attempting a life of deception of self, from self, and to self

Forgive me Father for I have sinned

for denying You and believing the fantasy so masterfully set before me

Forgive me Father for I have sinned

As I journey onto the path of true destiny paved with Your love and most of all forgiveness

Forgive me Father for I have sinned
